Friday, Feb. 12, 2021 – Special Measure Orders & Guidance

As we watch the increase of COVID-19 cases rise this week in the St. John’s area, we understand the anxiety and concern this can bring members of our community. We want to assure you that your safety and well-being remains our number one priority. We will continue to closely monitor guidelines and recommendations provided by our provincial health authority and adjust accordingly.

As you know, Dr. Janice Fitzgerald, NL’s Chief Medical Officer, has implemented special measures order and public health guidelines in response to the rise in COVID-19 cases. We recognize the importance of physical, mental, and emotional well-being and the role it plays in increasing our resilience and improving our state-of-mind. Since the announcement of the provincial special orders measures we have assessed our capability to safely keep some of our facilities open but with adjustments to operations until these orders are lifted.

Fitness Centre—Remains open with current restrictions.

Gymnasium—Not available for currently scheduled sporting groups. If you are interested in using this facility and can ensure physical distancing for an activity, please contact the Town Office at 925.3335 for approval.

Terry Smith Memorial Arena—All group sports are postponed until the special orders measures are lifted. Public and Family Skating time slots remain available with a reduction of participant numbers. No spectators are permitted.

Swimming Pool— Red Cross Swimming Lessons are postponed until public health measures are lifted. All other public and family swimming time slots remain available with a reduction of participant numbers. No spectators are permitted.

Ski Hill—X-country ski trail will remain open. The Ski Lodge continues to be closed for gatherings.

We encourage you to continue following all Public Health guidelines in public, at home, and when it comes to travelling and isolation. At this time, there is no need for people to self-isolate when travelling within the province. Each day, the Department of Health and Community Services updates locations where visitors or workers may have been exposed to COVID-19. If you were in the St. John’s-Metro area in the last 10 days and visited any of these places, please contact 811 or complete the online assessment and referral tool.
