Forest Fire Update
Landline Services (May 29)
May 30, 2025 (4:35 pm)
Provincial Forestry shared a favourable report today with respect to fire activity. Additional ground crews arrived on-site today to assist with continued monitoring and address hot spots, with responders and equipment remaining on standby to support as needed. The NL Active Fire Dashboard has placed the fire near Churchill Falls in a “Being Held” status.
As the weekend approaches, we want to remind everyone of the importance of practicing fire safety, despite our favourable forecast and the current fire status. Our vigilance can make all the difference. Here are some Public Safety Reminders for Forest Fire Season to stay safe.
We don’t anticipate further updates, unless circumstances change.
We want to express our gratitude and thanks to Provincial Forestry, fire response crews, our internal teams who continue to provide support; and of course, the people of our community who always show support, care, and understanding.
As always, be well & stay safe.

Update 3 (9:05 pm)
We are thankful for the continued efforts put forth by the fire crews both on the ground and in the air over the past 24 hours. Their combined efforts continued throughout the day and into this evening. Additional ground crews are expected tomorrow to further support hotspot suppression efforts.
We want to acknowledge the efforts of our crews who certainly demonstrate their abilities and commitment. We’d like to also express thanks for the provincial resources and support from across NL Hydro.
We know the past 24-hours have been all too familiar for members of our tight-knit community. We encourage you to seek supports if you feel you need them. Here are two that you might find helpful:

Update 2 (1:54 p.m.)
Fire suppression efforts are continuing in our area with ground crews and aerial support. Forestry officials confirm that the fire continues to burn east of the community, with winds continuing to push fire and smoke away from town in that direction.
We continue to monitor the situation closely and remain in regular contact with Forestry officials on current and changing conditions. We will continue providing you with updates and information as it becomes available to us.
The Fire Index continues to be at an EXTREME rating in our area. A local fire ban remains in place.
